Holiday home in sunny Sicily

Where to buy Sicily Property and what to expect from your new home

Sicily Property offers the second home buyer the full range of choices; from the bustling and cosmopolitan Palermo to the tranquil rural areas. The definition of an 'ideal home' is very much a subjective one - do you appreciate the bright lights and get bored easy or do you crave peace and quiet and a chance to reflect? You need to consider this very carefully before buying a villa or apartment.

Other factors you should consider before purchasing Sicily Property:

Why are you buying a property at a particular location?

Buying Sicily Property as an investment
Are you looking to rent out your property or do some renovations and sell it on? If so, you should consider the seaside resort of Taormina (expensive but up-market) or the better districts of Catania. You can find small apartments and holiday homes which should produce a good return over the next few years.

Buying Sicily Property as a holiday home for yourself
If you are looking to make this somewhere that you and your family can stay then some things you need to consider first are:

How you are going to get to your new home?
If you choose to live in a rural area then you should be aware that Public Transport services are not well provided for and it will almost certainly be necessary to rent a car and then beware of the other Sicilian drivers. If you opt for a house in Catania or Palermo then you may be able to avoid the expense of a hired car. Check flights from your home country to these cities and make sure that there is a competitively-priced air service.

What do you want to do when you get there?
If you are a beach person who likes lots of activities then make sure you head for a tourist center. If you prefer the quiet life then a rustic villa is just for you. If you want to combine the two then consider Messina or Noto.

How committed are you to learning Italian?
If you are going to live in the midst of the Sicilian countryside, then you will need to gain a good grasp of the language. You are unlikely to find anyone that will understand (or admit to understanding) a word of English in anywhere outside of the major tourist centers.

We hope that you found these suggestions helpful towards your purchasing of Sicily Property.
