As a current university student with teaching experience, I understand the importance of tailoring each educational experience to the individual pupil. Presenting the material in an appropriate manner can demonstrate to a student where her strengths lie and lead to a crucial sense of accomplishment for her as well. Furthermore, I believe that comprehending more difficult concepts is much simpler when you start with a firm grasp on the basics. Accordingly, my students and I will address each new lesson by starting with the fundamental ideas. For example, the ability to write a quality paper comes from the ability to construct quality sentences.

My English tutoring skills have been developed during supervised teaching experience in a private elementary school for gifted children. As a writing coach, I helped the students learn to write expository essays, formal letters, and persuasive papers. We addressed the punctuation and grammatical concepts required to present an idea in writing. I have also volunteered as a reading buddy for middle school children who need additional support. One of my students needed encouragement to read for pleasure, since he had a difficult time comprehending both the individual words and the ideas presented in each sentence. In order to help him enjoy reading, we focused on building his skills for sounding out words and understanding what they meant.

In addition to academic qualifications, I believe that a tutor must make a personal connection with her student in order to support and encourage the pupil's learning journey. In addition to my teaching experience, I spent all of high school and much of middle school on athletic teams (rowing, tennis), developing my interpersonal and leadership skills. I enjoy the opportunity to share my knowledge and watch others develop both their
academic skills and confidence.
