A portable dog kennel - a veritable home from home
In the dog house? Maybe you'll wish you were when you see your pet's new portable dog kennel
A portable dog kennel is rapidly becoming a popular choice for dog-owners who either find that their pampered pooches spend their time indoors (and thus have no need of an external dog kennel) or that traveling with a full-sized kennel of traditional construction is not viable. The sheer bulk of a kennel for a large dog can just be too much for a car or even its trailer.
The portable dog kennel is another option. Its function as a temporary home for your dog means that its construction need not be so substantial and that it can, therefore, be of lighter construction. Being less bulky and even collapsible makes a portable dog kennel a much more attractive proposition for traveling with your dog. Even a portable dog kennel for a larger breed of dog can be accommodated this way.
A portable dog kennel is typically made of a combination of very strong plastic, wire mesh and nylon - all lightweight and relatively cheap materials. As a result a portable dog kennel need not cost the earth with retail prices running out at typically around £100 - £200 ($200 - $400). This compares very favorably with kennel costs which can easily come to £20 ($40) per day. Now man and his best friend need not be parted!
When you choose your portable dog kennel remember that strength and functionality are everything. Don't go for cuteness, color scheme or other peripheral features, go for one which will survive and be useful again another day. If you and your pet like it enough there is nothing to stop it becoming the permanent home but that is not what it was principally designed for. This may also help reassure your pet if and when it ever has to go into kennels - try to get the kennels owner to let your dog sleep in its own portable dog kennel which at least will help remind it of home and possibly go a way to reducing pining and worry.
Like most things these days, the greatest choice is to be found online although you should always try your local pet shop first to see what they have in stock. If the choice is limited or expensive then sit down for an hour and see if you can't find your pet the ideal portable dog kennel.
