Practical, fashionable and affordable - a leather ottoman chest for your living room, bathroom, bedroom, hall, office ...
An ottoman in your home could well become the seat of power
An ottoman is a must have for our new living room - we might even get several. It has to be one of the most practical pieces of furniture that you can choose for your home - a leather ottoman is particularly stylish, too.
Originally the function of an ottoman was to merely provide a place to rest ones feet and, as a result, tended to be made out of fabric. Over the years, they have been adapted and, as a result, have increased in popularity. The modern ottoman is highly-functional and can operate as a comfortable seat or bench or provide much-needed secure and dust-free storage.
A large part of the appeal is the ottoman's informality. It is an ideal 'perch' and, accordingly, invites interaction between members of the household. It is much easier to communicate if both parties are at the same level and comfortable.
Another useful function of the ottoman is that it unobtrusively provides additional seating for unexpected guests. It does not have the same 'permanence of occupation' that a chair has, for example and can be moved around to fit the needs of the occasion.
Finally, the internal space can be extremely useful. Here you have a dust-free compartment which is away from most people's eyes. Because of the opacity of the ottoman, you do not need to worry about how things are placed inside nor about the potential for damage occurring to them. The solid sides of an ottoman and the tough leather seat are strong enough to defeat the effect of most knocks and spills.
Design-wise, there is no limit to the colors and styles your ottoman chest can have. Whatever your chosen decor, there will be an ottoman to complement it.
Although an ottoman is generally seen as living room furniture, it is equally 'at home' in a bedroom, bathroom, office or hall - anywhere that there is a need for storage and occasional seating for the passing posterior. Towels, blankets, books, toys, presents - there are no limits to what you can store in it.
I want to use ours as a more comfortable seat for when I play my keyboard and then store all my music books inside it out of everyone's way. What will you use yours for?
You should expect to pay upwards of about £250 (US$500) for a good-quality ottoman.
