Music Tuition
Piano Lessons, Guitar Lessons - even the bagpipes. Learn to
play a musical instrument with a face-to-face or online music teacher from our
free directory of music teachers
Music tuition is essential if the student is to get the
most out of a valuable musical instrument but music lessons are expensive and
a good music teacher can be hard to find.
To help you with your music tuition, we have compiled a directory of music teachers
which can be freely-accessed without need to subscribe. Whether you want piano
lessons, guitar lessons or to learn to play the bagpipes, you will find music
teachers who can help you.
Music lessons typically last either 30 minutes or an hour and can take place
in the music teacher's home, your home or you can even have online music tuition.
The latter is surprisingly effective (my partner has had online music tuition)
and can work extremely well although it has to be said that a complete beginner
is better with face-to-face music tuition to help sort out fingering and adjustment
of the musical instrument, for example.
Expect to pay around £25 to £30 (US$50 - 60) per hour for your music tuition
- music lessons tend to be more expensive than any other sort of lessons which
is partly due to the cost of the instruments and music which music teachers
have to invest in.
A common misconception with music tuition is that it is better to start having
music lessons before the instrument is purchased. Of course most music teachers
will be happy to advise you in what to purchase but, if you are to get the most
from your music tuition, you need to practice in-between music lessons and your
music teacher will not be able to loan every student a practice instrument.
Instead, visit the major music shops in your area and look for a 'try-before-you-buy'
instrument. Most big shops will offer this and the way it works is that the
musical instrument is rented to you without obligation and, if you then decide
to buy it, these payments are deducted from the purchase price.
Another error in thinking is that it is possible to be too old for music tuition.
This is nonsense. While it is unlikely that a senior will progress to performance
level, there is substantial evidence to show that the physical and mental activity
is extremely beneficial. Playing music reduces stress and even a short practice
session in between the regular music lessons can be a highly effective form
of relaxation.
Music tuition does not necessarily need to be aimed towards a formal qualification
- playing can just be for the sheer pleasure of it. Like any skill to be acquired,
it helps if the student has a goal - for example, being able to play at a particular
level, to not make mistakes, to improve technique or even just to master a specific
song that they have always wanted to play.
So, all you have to do now is to find the right music teacher and book some
music lessons.
Good luck with your music tuition.
