At peak there were over 4,000 'Docs' available.

All you needed to benefit from this superb service was a standard PC with access to the internet to participate for your free lesson. You also need to sign up for one of the free services like Messenger (MSN, Windows, AOL, YAHOO) or SKYPE (an up and coming one). If you have a microphone or a webcam (with Broadband) you are really motoring and can enjoy all of the benefits of the massive improvements in communication.

Online tuition - the future of education - today and free of charge! That was another of our slogans for the free lessons.

When we first introduced the free lessons trial, it was strictly for a limited period but as it was such a success, we extended it until we sold our tuition service in November 2006. Throughout that time it was strictly limited to one free session per household.

At the end of the free lesson clients were invited to book further (paid-for) sessions - we didn't use sales pressure and, in fact, about 90% of clients who had had the free lessons came back and booked paid-for ones; often going from a solitary trial lesson to a blockbooking of 30 or even 60 sessions. Our staff were particularly conscious that many of the students were minors and we gave parents our guarantee that the lessons would not be hardsold. It wasn't necessary anyway as it turned out - the free lessons sold themselves.

The subsequent paid-for lessons were bargain-priced too. For example the prices for adult beginners (most practical subjects except music) and up to GCSE level tuition ranged from only £11.25 to £16 per hour (about US$22 to US$30) depending upon number of lessons pre-booked and paid for.

To book the free lessons the client just filled in a simple form on which they stated what they required along with their computer set-up and time availability. Unfortunately there are always those who thought that they could book a whole course of lessons that way - sadly that wasn't the idea of the trial. As a result we had to issue reminders that our tutors were only interested in offering serious tuition - not to do homework and that they would permanently terminate the session where the requirement was to do work which the student had been given to do themselves.

We are sorry but we no longer provide free lessons - the agency which bought out the tuition side of our agency does not currently offer free lessons.
