Are you in the frame for some abstract art?
Let us paint you a picture of what abstract art is all about.
Abstract art is very much an experience within an experience and is the art of conveying a message about the feelings and thoughts of the painter as a concept and not as a 'solution' or 'interpretation'. Abstract art can be a painting, sculpture or drawing - it is not the object itself but the way in which the artist has captured it that matters.
A major attraction of abstract art is that the colors and textures used do not have to be 'realistic' and, as such, can be more vibrant and cheerful.
Abstract art does not need to dictate the subject matter in any way and can be used to represent natural and scenic compositions just as it can be used to depict an idea. The chief difference can easily be noted by considering, say, a portrait.
A conventional portrait painter would obviously be interested in reproducing an accurate and, hopefully, reasonably flattering likeness. An abstract artist is more concerned with illustrating their feelings about that person and recreating the experience of being with them at that point in time. Abstract art is, therefore, a kind of internal painting and, thus, a unique view of the subject.
Likewise, since this is a summary of the artist's perception of the subject at that time, the same subject may suggest completely different imagery in a second sitting. A traditional artist will still see the same subject and, unless there is a change of backdrop or lighting, merely reproduce a similar portrait.
Again, unlike traditional art, abstract art provokes strong feelings - you like it or you hate it; something that most traditional works are unlikely to do. The colors and shapes will entrance, distract and captivate you - either that or you will feel that they represent a pointless and anarchic 'statement'. Either way the choice is yours and you must decide what is right for hanging on your wall. With abstract art, buyers tend to be drawn to a piece - often without really knowing why; it just 'speaks' to them.
The main attraction for most people in purchasing a piece of abstract art for their home is that it has the ability to provoke thought, change moods and be a natural talking and focal point for visitors. Make your painting or sculpture the center of attention and get your party off to a flying start!
Pieces don't have to be expensive nor do they need to be 'avant-garde'. Many works are extremely restful and contemplative. Good luck choosing your piece of abstract art.
