Of course your golf buggy will take you for a ride sir - just mind the holes or you will be green!

Is your golf cart salesman full of gas or is he electric? Do you feel used or does it make you feel brand new? The choice is yours when buying your golf buggy or golf cart

A Golf buggy or a golf cart is a small vehicle designed to carry two golfers and their golf equipment around a golf course with the notion that it uses less effort than walking around. Today, these golf buggies come in different formats and can accommodate a number of passengers for short distances. Originally, golf carts were electrically powered. Later on gas powered golf carts made an appearance. In effect, electric golf carts were among the first mass produced electric cars for private use. Electric golf buggies have been used since the 1950s. Due to their affordability for most serious golfers, many golfers are opting to purchase their own golf buggies instead of renting them at golf courses. For those courses that allow you to use your own golf cart, buying one is a sound decision.

In many retirement communities, golf carts are used, not on the golf course, but for making short trips where using a car would be impractical. However, different states and local authorities have rules and regulations that govern the use of golf carts. So before taking your new golf cart for a test drive, make sure you will be complying with the local laws. If it is appropriate to drive in your area, then by adding some safety requirements like headlights, safety belts and break lights, you can take your little car on the street. Obviously when considering the cost of using the golf cart be sure it does not require more maintenance than the typical family car it is being favoured over.

Prior to buying a golf cart, consider its size and weight. There are many manufacturers of golf buggies and they produce good high quality carts. However, their size, shape and weight may differ from one brand to another. If the golf cart is to be used on a local course, it is a good idea to talk to the manager in charge of the course and see what weight regulations and recommendations they have on golf carts on their course before making a purchase.

When it comes to selecting the golf cart, you will usually have two choices being either a gas powered or an electric cart. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. For carts that are to be used on a golf course, electric carts are probably the best choice. Gas powered carts generally cost more in terms of maintenance and operation than electric golf carts. With the recent increase in gas prices, the more reasons there are to go for electric golf buggies.

Decide also whether you want a new cart or a used buggy. Naturally, with a used cart, one is never sure the kind of maintenance and use it has received. A used golf cart is cheaper than a new golf buggy going for around $2,000 while a new one is about $4,000. Many dealers usually sell both new and used golf buggies. As always it is advisable to buy from a dealer with a good solid reputation.

By using the above tips, you will be more prepared when purchasing your golf cart or golf buggy.
